چکیده

A numerical investigation of transient, two-dimensional natural convection in horizontal isothermal cylindrical annuli is performed to investigate the Prandtl number and diameter ratio effect on flow heat transfer characteristics. The finite difference method used solve governing equations, which buoyancy modeled via Boussinesq approximation. Both vorticity energy equations are solved using alternating direction implicit (ADI) stream function equation by successive over relaxation (SOR) method. Solutions for laminar case obtained up Grashof 105 as well three different ratios, namely 1.2, 1.5, 2.0 varies from 0.7 10 considered. computed patterns temperature fields shown means streamlines isotherms, respectively, average coefficients also presented. results summarized Nusselt vs. correlations with a parameter. parametric study show that have profound influence field they almost independent low fluid. increases 25% at large number. Good agreement earlier available data obtained.

Effect of Prandtl Number on Natural Convection Heat Transfer from a Heated Semi-Circular Cylinder

Natural convection heat transfer from a heated horizontal semi-circular cylinder (flat surface upward) has been investigated for the following ranges of conditions; Grashof number, and Prandtl number. The governing partial differential equations (continuity, Navier-Stokes and energy equations) have been solved numerically using a finite volume formulation. In addition, the role of the type of t...

Transient Natural Convection Flow on an Isothermal Vertical Wall at High Prandtl Numbers: Second-Order Approximation

The method of matched asymptotic expansions, which has been used in previous studies of steady natural convection flow, is extended here to transient natural convection flow at high Prandtl number (Pr). Second-order expansion solutions, valid for large Prandtl numbers, are presented for the transient natural convection flow near a vertical surface which undergoes a step change in temperature. T...

Numerical Study of Transient Laminar Natural Convection Cooling of high Prandtl Number Fluids in a Cubical Cavity: Influence of the Prandtl Number

This paper presents and discusses the numerical simulations of transient laminar natural convection cooling of high Prandtl number fluids in cubical cavities, in which the six walls of the cavity are subjected to a step change in temperature. The effect of the fluid Prandtl number on the heat transfer coefficient is studied for three different fluids (Golden Syrup, Glycerin and Glycerin-water s...

Turbulent Rayleigh–Bénard convection in a cylindrical container with aspect ratio Γ = 0.50 and Prandtl number P r = 4.38

Measurements of the Nusselt number and properties of the large-scale circulation (LSC) are presented for turbulent Rayleigh–Bénard convection in water-filled cylindrical containers (Prandtl number Pr =4.38) with aspect ratio Γ =0.50. They cover the range 2× 10 <∼ Ra <∼ 1× 10 of the Rayleigh number Ra. We confirm the occurrence of a double-roll state (DRS) of the LSC and focus on the statistics ...

Laminar Natural Convection

The problem of laminar, natural convection flow over a vertical f rus tum of a cone is treated in this paper. The thermal boundary condition at the wall include both the constant wall temperature and the constant wall heat flux cases. The governing differential equations are solved by a combinat ion of quasilinearization and finitedifference methods. Numerical solutions are obtained for a range...
